BROOKLYN, Ohio — The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce recently announced that graduating Hurricanes Sienna Jackson and MaKenna Lottig are the recipients of the annual scholarship and education fund scholarships.
“Each year, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce encourages graduating seniors to pursue educational opportunities that support their professional development and contribute to their career goals,” Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amber Wiesner said.
Added Chamber of Commerce President Jessica M. Cliff: “The community has come to expect these scholarships from us. Every little bit helps for students going off to college.”
Sienna, who is headed to the University of Southern California to study neuroscience, received a $1,000 scholarship.

MaKenna received a $500 scholarship to study political science at The Ohio State University.
Cliff said the selection of scholarship recipients is based on the quality of essays.
The money for the scholarships comes from the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship & Education Fund, which is supported annually by various fundraisers.
This includes its latest Grocery Store Fundraiser. Tickets are $25 for 13 chances to win a $3,000 first-prize gift card to Walmart. There are currently tickets remaining before the May 31 drawing.
“Keep an eye out for the next round of whatever the chamber chooses to do,” Cliff said. “We’re talking about doing monthly 50/50s, we’re talking about doing another grocery store raffle or something similar to generate funds throughout the year.”
Wiesner added: “We remain committed to providing opportunities for our community members. An integral part of the chamber’s mission is to provide connections that invest in the future of our community and contribute to the overall economic prosperity.”
