Brooklyn Asked for It, They Got It!
Much Desired Senior Living Community Opens in Brooklyn, Ohio

For over 20 years, Brooklyn, Ohio residents have been longing for a local senior living community in their neighborhood. As of October 2018, their wish has been granted with the debut of Meridian Senior Living’s Brooklyn Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care as the first and only assisted living and memory care community located in the city of Brooklyn.

Newly constructed and stunning, Brooklyn Pointe is sited at 4800 Idlewood Drive tucked right behind the Marc’s Grocery Store in the Ridge Park Square shopping district off of I-480.  The community offers a total of 80 apartments in studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartment configurations.

Since its opening, Brooklyn Pointe has been become a new home for many residents in the area such as Beverly Beischlag. Moving from Parma Heights, her journey to finding Brooklyn Pointe is described, “After a short brief illness Beverly knew she could no longer live on her own and her boys jumped in to find the very best place for her.  They spent several hours visiting and asking questions before they brought mom into the picture.  Once they were satisfied with answers and the help they were given, they knew they had found the right place for mom.   Beverly loves her apartment with two windows and enjoys the social activity here at Brooklyn Pointe.”

The owner’s representative, Steve Nicholas, expressed that Brooklyn Pointe is delighted to be a part of the Brooklyn community and provides both a new living option for Brooklyn seniors and employment opportunities in professional and management positions.  Brooklyn Pointe is designed for seniors who can benefit from the many services and amenities offered, such as dining, housekeeping, medication management, and other personal assistance. “We offer all the comforts of home without the worries associated with home ownership,” Nicholas added, “which gives our residents a new freedom to enjoy life and socialize more.”

Designed using new state-of-the–art technology, Brooklyn Pointe is not your typical senior living residence that exudes an institutional atmosphere. Instead, when people walk through Brooklyn Pointe’s doors, they are welcomed with a home-like, residential setting flooded with natural sunlight in all areas. The two-story stone-clad community features unique architectural elements including light wells, decorative windows, and sunrooms that fill the spaces with an abundance of natural light. There is a beautiful two-story ledge-rock fireplace that towers over the lounge and neighboring bistro.

Residents can be as busy as they please at Brooklyn Pointe while getting the exceptional care from best-in-class partners available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Scheduled activities and social events including happy hours, musical entertainment, and various outings are geared toward a social, active lifestyle. Residents can feast daily in the large dining room on delicious, food prepared by the talented executive chef while overlooking the courtyard or socialize in the lounge that features a new baby grand piano.  There is a private dining room designed for special family celebrations or dinner parties. Reminiscent of the street vendors of the past, a popcorn machine on wheels sits in the activity center and can be wheeled for use in the theater room. Off the activity center is a greenhouse, where residents can soak up some sun and nourish herbs for the chef’s use or grow their own plants.

For those with Alzheimer’s or dementia, Brooklyn Pointe offers a special, separate memory care neighborhood. Specially trained staff and Meridian’s exclusive Montessori Moments in Time ™ program are carefully tailored to meet residents’ needs, along with family-style surroundings to mirror the residents’ homes.

Brooklyn Pointe celebrated its grand opening on October 18, 2018 with over 300 visitors including prospective residents, family members, and city representatives including the Brooklyn City Mayor, Katie Gallagher.  “The city of Brooklyn is happy to welcome the much-anticipated Brooklyn Pointe Assisted Living Facility to our community,” Mayor Gallagher exclaimed. “We have always wanted to give our seniors the option to stay here in Brooklyn when they reached the next stage of their lives and now we have that ability. It is a beautiful facility and we look forward to our continued partnership for years to come.” Karen Fratto, Senior Center Coordinator of the city of Brooklyn, commented, “Brooklyn Pointe is a very welcomed addition to our community.  We have already began partnering with them and look forward to an ongoing relationship.”

Brooklyn Pointe is honored to be a part of the Brooklyn, OH community and very much hopes to grow that relationship and to exceed the expectations of Brooklyn citizens in the coming years. “We are excited to welcome staff, residents, and resident families of Brooklyn Pointe to the Meridian family,” says Meridian Senior Living Chief Operating Officer Kacy Kang. “We look forward to learning the unique stories and passions of our new residents, their families, and our new colleagues.”
